Kathryn Clamp, back in business after year-long cancer battle

Consultant Kathryn Clamp is back in business at her first trade show following a year-long battle with cancer.

She is set to attend Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEi) at the Excel centre in London on September 12 to 15.

Experienced business development and sales support consultant Kathryn, who is managing director of kc4business Ltd, heads to the leading industry event after receiving the all-clear following lifesaving treatment for oesophageal cancer.

Kathryn, of Thame, Oxfordshire, has paid tribute to all of those who have supported her over the past 12 months.

They include clients, business associates, the Upper Gastro-Intestinal (UGI) team at the Churchill Hospital and Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Oxfordshire Oesophageal and Stomach Organisation (OOSO) and its chairman Matt Carter, friends, family and fellow spin class members, instructors and owners at Racquets Fitness Centre in Thame.

Friends at Racquets went above and beyond to help Kathryn continue indoor cycling classes throughout her treatment.

Kathryn said: “You never expect cancer to happen to you until it actually does.

“How do you say thank you to people who have saved your life? I am incredibly grateful to all the UGI clinical and support teams at Churchill NHS Oxfordshire, especially my surgeon and oncology teams.

“I am very much looking forward to getting back to work and attending DSEI where I’ll renew acquaintances with business friends and colleagues.

“It can’t come soon enough and then I intend to attend more events in the autumn as I get back to business.”

Kathryn underwent tests last July before undergoing gruelling bouts of chemotherapy in October and November followed by eight hours of surgery for an oesophagostomy in January.

She spent a fortnight in hospital, including a week in intensive care, and was given more chemotherapy in March before receiving an all-clear scan in June.

Kathryn will be based on the Parmley Technologies Stand in the Make UK Defence Pavilion at DSEi, which she has been attending since 2015.

In November she will be at the Make UK Defence Summit as well as Battlespace Publications’ annual Chepstow Military Raceday in aid of the SSAFA armed forces charity, Royal Hospital, Chelsea, and Combat Stress.

Kathryn spinning back to health

Kathryn began her career in the army before working as a business account manager and member of the UK management team at leading electrical component manufacturer E-T-A Circuit Breakers Ltd for more than 20 years.

She launched kc4business Ltd in 2015 at the age of 61 to provide outsourced business development and sales support services predominately in the defence, aerospace, rail and energy sectors.

Kathryn has business and moral support from her daughter Jo Dinnage, who is also a director of kc4business, as well as a wealth of family support.

She is a member of the Make UK Defence, Farnborough Aerospace Consortium (FAC), and Conex-Portal. 

During 2023 Kathryn will be supporting Oesophageal and Stomach Organisation (OOSO) and Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF).
